IRS Offers Tax Relief to Victims of California Wildfires
Businesses affected by wildfires in seven California counties have until Jan. 31, 2018, to file certain tax
returns and make certain tax payments, the Internal Revenue Service said Sept. 13.
The tax relief postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred starting Oct. 8, 2017.
Several business tax deadlines were affected, including the Oct. 31 deadline for quarterly payroll tax
returns, the agency said (IR-2017-172).
The IRS also is waiving late-deposit penalties for federal payroll tax deposits normally due from Oct. 9 to
Oct. 22, if the deposits are made by Oct. 23, 2017.
These counties were affected by the wildfires: Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Sonoma, and
Yuba.
